We stayed here for a week at the start of August on the second leg of our holiday. I will start by saying that the site is immaculate. Set on a fairly steep slope the pitches are terraced which gives you fantastic views of the sea and Watermouth Cove.
The sunsets were beautiful and I loved waking up each morning to the view of the sea. We only used the toilet block at the bottom of the site next to the shop and cafe but we found this to also be spotless and well kept. There were plenty of loos, all were clean at all times and there was also a good number of showers, never had to wait. The lights go off on a timer if you shower at night but only if you took quite a long time - most campsites have these kind of lights now to save energy.
We found the owners to be very friendly and helpful during our stay. Yes there are clear rules and expectations such as dogs on leads to be exercised off site and children to be in the company of parents after 10pm but these are the kind of rules that mean the majority of people have a pleasant stay.
We had a meal in the bar on one evening as we fancied a pizza and they were lovely. I also had a cream tea which was one of the best I had during our Devon holiday (and I had a few!). The bar had a decked area with sea views. The kids play area and tennis court was also below this area so it was nice to sit with a drink while the kids played close by.
The beach is very close by, down the famous 230 odd steps so not for the feint-hearted. The climb down and back up though is well worth it and we had a couple of nice sunny days on the beach plus a few rainy ones but due to the gorgeous location we enjoyed them all whatever the weather.
